2016 is here - and for those of us who follow fashion, we know that a new year brings with it a whole host of new styles and trends. 2015 was a great year for fashion, with key trends like glitzy jewellery, big handbags, and big boots stealing the headlines. So what can we look forward to in 2016? Here's three major fashion and accessories trends that we at LVBT think could be very popular over the coming year, starting with a trip back to the 1970s.
1. Everything 1970s
For years the 1970s was a derided decade. As the futuristic styles of the 1980s and 1990s took hold, everyone forgot about the fashion of the 1970s, which seemed only to be characterised by flares and bad patterns. However, Elle is predicting that in 2016 1970s inspired fabrics could be a key trend for Autumn/Winter collections. Lots of designers, including Alberta Ferretti and Rebecca Minkoff are leading the way with suede, and it could filter down to the high street soon after. This could also mean that 1970s inspired accessories and jewellery may become very popular, so watch out for some big, funky designs next year.
Most people don't associate the Victoria era with high fashion, but over the past few years Victoriana has been making a comeback in other ways. Lots of TV shows, from Sherlock to Downton Abbey, have been influenced by Victorian style, and in 2016 it is predicted that big cuffs, puffy sleeves, and high collar necklines could be on trend. In terms of bags and jewellery, this means understated silver pieces, floral prints, and throwback designs.
3. Pleats, please!
Pleats are another major fashion trend for the coming year. This has developed in tandem with the current penchant for white shirts and more formal outfits, and in 2016 you can expect to see pleats on everything, from skirts to shirts and dresses. Major designers like Boss and Tome are already working with pleats, and they could be key for fashion in 2016.
