Key pieces for Spring/Summer 2016
There’s just something about the mention of new accessories for the upcoming seasons that puts a spring in your step (no pun intended). While boots, hats and gloves are comforting, cosy and warm, the thought of being able to lighten up and leave the house with just a purse rather than a bag big enough to hold your gloves, umbrella, scarf and tissues are very appealing by this time of the year! So here are a couple of key pieces to make a statement in your upcoming spring/summer wardrobe. This year the key trends are more solid and less ethereal than we have seen in recent years, a harder take on Boho Chic. Although there will always be a place for the Spring Brights, natural and earthy colours will be the key palette in the first half of this year.
Bags and scarves
Florals are always a spring staple and this year is no exception. However, this year they are toned down in more neutral and earthy colours rather than spring pinks and lilacs, taking inspiration from ethnic designs. This translates well to bags and scarves, and both of these classic accessories are brought right up to date with more ethnic detailing, with fringing and tassels marking an accessory that’s right on trend.
Jewellery
For some time now, big, bold rings have been the jewellery item of choice and statement pieces continue to dominate the scene, while dangly drop earrings are back in fashion in a big way. Mirroring the tassels and fringing on bags and scarves, your choice of earrings should be all about movement and in keeping with your flowing hair style.
Shoes
Following the ethnic trend in 2016, the key footwear style is all about the cut-out. The thin ethereal straps are gone; this year it is about covering most of the foot, leaving a tantalising glimpse uncovered, from the gladiator style to the heeled sandal, the cut-out loafer and everything in between. Heel height is up to you, but if you go for heels keep them chunky and solid, with the straps providing the detailing.
Enjoy yourself!
