At LVBT we strongly believe in empowering women around the world to stand out, make a difference whilst staying true to who they are and always being their own kind of beautiful. It’s about supporting female empowerment in all aspects of life.
“Women are like tea bags. You never know how strong they are until they’re in hot water” – Eleanor Roosevelt
With this in mind, we were lucky enough to interview Glamzam co-founder and fashionista Ashleigh Charlton Nicholls, a good friend of LVBT and a true inspiration who proves that anything you put your mind to can be achieved.
LVBT: How and why did you start your online fashion business Glamzam?
Ashleigh: Glamzam was started originally as The Dress Collections while I was living in Cyprus as a part time business. I realised that the future of fashion was affordable, good quality and convenient, and worked to fill that criteria. After moving to the UK, I worked on The Dress Collections full time and changed the brand name to Glamzam to embrace the essence of our fun, glamorous brand that it is today.
LVBT: What does your daily role consist of?
Ashleigh: Officially I am the creative director however as we are a small company, my role tends to encompass a lot of responsibilities! I research new products, design and draft patterns for new styles, and liaise with our factory in the UK to ensure products are finished to a high standard and are produced quickly to fulfil the need for fast trends our customers demand. I oversee all social media and the advertising campaigns.
LVBT: What challenges did you face starting your online business and what obstacles do you still sometimes face?
Ashleigh: As none of the directors worked for other online businesses, it can feel like a lot of trial and error, however, we are all extremely hard working and determined.
LVBT: How would you best describe Glamzam?
Ashleigh: Glamzam is a fun glamorous brand focusing on trendy celebrity inspired fashion. We bring the latest trendy items, manufactured to a high standard.
LVBT: What do you enjoy most about your working for yourself?
Ashleigh: My nature is definitely entrepreneurial and I'm addicted to creating a better business and finding new ways to grow. Work definitely doesn't feel like work for me, it's more of a lifestyle and of course being able to take my favourite items from the collections is an added bonus!
LVBT: What advice would you give other females looking to start their own business?
Ashleigh: If you have a business idea, my advice is to begin ASAP! Too often we are held back by our doubts and fears but with careful planning and a determined, hardworking attitude, we can surprise ourselves and everyone else. I definitely believe we are living in an era of incredible female entrepreneurs and it's never been easier for women to start a business.
LVBT: When you’re not working what do you love to do?
Ashleigh: My life is creativity obsessed! When I'm not working, I'm shopping or decorating our home. I enjoy creating a beautiful, inspiring home and entertaining guests. I relax after a long day by taking our two dogs for a walk in Bushy Park.
LVBT: What do you feel about LVBT’s mission to help inspire real women to be their own kind of beautiful and embrace their natural beauty?
Ashleigh: It's great to see a business with a good cause and ethics. I think the media portrays a set standard that so many women struggle to live to yet they are beautiful in their own way and should be celebrated.
LVBT: What is your favourite LVBT collection and why?
Ashleigh: I think there are so many incredible brands however my personal favourite is MYA BAY for its everyday wearability and incredible quality.
LVBT: If you could only pick one piece of jewellery to best describe yourself what would it be and why?
Ashleigh: It would probably be a statement necklace as I love collecting unusual beautiful items and making a statement in how I dress.
LVBT: How would you describe your overall style?
Ashleigh: I feel like I change style so often. With being in the fashion industry, it's easy to be inspired by others, however, it would most closely be described as classic with trendy twists.
LVBT: What makes you feel beautiful and why?
Ashleigh: I definitely think it's when I've had some time for myself, whether it be some time in thought or enjoying a bit of pampering, I feel beautiful when I look after myself and take the time out from busy, everyday life to be the best I can be.
